MODERN FARMHOUSE

The nature of THE PLACE

  • Rural, rolling farmland outside of Portland.

  • A beautiful old historic barn on the premises.

  • An existing small residence that would be converted to a home office.

  • Create a new residence for multigenerational living.

The nature of THE CLIENT & THEIR NEEDS

  • Young professional family with small kids, dogs + Mom and Dad also to reside in a separate ADU living unit.

  • Multi-generational living!

  • 2-story modern farmhouse with metal roofs.

  • Attached 2 units with separation created with a common conditioned hallway.

  • 3 bedroom, 2 ½ bath + home office.

  • Energy efficient home meeting Earth Advantage Platinum standards for energy and clean indoor air quality standards.

THE DESIGN RESPONSE.

  • Organized around a courtyard as defined by the new house, the existing house (as new office) and the existing historic barn structure at the rear.

  • Modern farmhouse style with lots of big windows.

  • “Z” shaped floor plan – main residence at the front leg, an interior connector comprised of a 3-car garage and a wide corridor = fitness center for the family, and an apartment along the back leg for mom/dad = a multi-generational dwelling.

  • The overall floor plan created natural privacy for each of the living units because of the 3 legs.

  • Several covered outdoor areas on front and rear sides.

  • Entry vehicular courtyard organizes the entire property.

  • Back yard courtyard = allows the 2 families to easily gather.
